A quieter corner of Bali
Velora sits at the southern tip of Bali, on the limestone cliffs of the Bukit peninsula. It is a quieter part of the island than Seminyak or Canggu — there are no nightclubs and very little traffic — and the ocean here is open and clean. The coastline is dramatic: limestone cliffs falling sixty metres into the Indian Ocean, world-class surf at Padang Padang and Uluwatu, and a string of small temples along the headland.
Pura Luhur Uluwatu
Pura Luhur Uluwatu — Uluwatu Temple — is one of the six most important temples on the island, a sea temple founded in the 11th century and perched on a cliff edge a few kilometres from us. The Kecak fire dance, performed each evening at sunset in the open-air temple amphitheatre, is one of the great cultural experiences in Indonesia. Velora is eight minutes by car or buggy; our concierge can arrange transfers and reserved seating.
Beaches, surf and cliff bars
Padang Padang Beach is a five-minute walk from the resort along a private path. Single Fin, the cliff bar where surfers gather at sunset, is four minutes by buggy. The longer beaches of Bingin and Suluban are within fifteen minutes. We can arrange surf lessons (we work with one of the original Padang Padang families), private boat charters, and access to the smaller, quieter coves further west.
Getting here
Denpasar International Airport (DPS) is approximately fifty minutes by car. Direct bookings include complimentary airport transfer in our private vehicle. Helicopter transfer is available on request — fifteen minutes from the airport, landing at our private pad on the headland.
When to come
The dry season runs April to October — bright, hot days, cooler evenings, and the best ocean conditions. The wet season is November to March; the rain falls in short, dramatic afternoon storms but the resort is at its lushest and the rates are at their best. April, May, June and September are widely considered the best months to visit Bali.
