There is no bad time. Only different times.
People often ask us when the best time to visit Bali is, and we always answer the same way: there is no bad time. The island has a tropical climate, which means warm year-round (26–32°C), with two clear seasons — dry and wet — and small but meaningful variations from month to month.
The dry season: April to October
The dry season is what most travellers picture when they imagine Bali. Days are bright and hot, evenings cool down to around 24°C, the humidity drops, and the ocean conditions on the southern coast are at their cleanest. April, May, June and September are the most reliable months — fewer crowds than peak summer, but every bit as beautiful. July and August are the absolute peak: busiest, hottest, and most expensive, but with perfect weather and the longest evenings.
The wet season: November to March
The wet season has a poor reputation it does not deserve. Most days are still sunny, with one or two short, dramatic afternoon storms. The island is at its lushest — the rice terraces are bright green, the rivers are full, and the resort gardens are at their best. Rates are lower, the beaches are quieter, and the temples (which we recommend visiting in the morning anyway) are almost empty. December and the first week of January are the exception: a busy holiday surge with festive rates.
For honeymoons
If you can choose any time, we suggest May, June or September — warm, dry, calm seas, fewer crowds and the best evening light. April and October are equally lovely if you prefer a slightly quieter resort. For maximum privacy and the best value, consider mid-March or early November.
For surf
Padang Padang and Uluwatu come alive in the dry season — May through September is peak swell, with consistent waves overhead and head-high. The Padang Padang Cup is held each year in late July or early August. In the wet season the south is gentler; the better surf shifts to the eastern coast at Keramas and Sanur.
Festivals worth planning around
Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, falls in March and is a profoundly beautiful experience — the entire island shuts down for 24 hours. Galungan, a ten-day festival that comes around every 210 days, fills the island with bamboo poles and offerings. Both are unforgettable to witness, and both are best experienced from a quiet resort like ours, where the rituals continue undisturbed.

Questions
Does it rain every day in the wet season?+
No. Most wet-season days are mostly sunny, with one short afternoon storm. The rain rarely interrupts a full day's plans.
Is December a good time to visit?+
It is beautiful but busy. Early December is excellent; the last two weeks see festive crowds and rates.
When is the best time for surfing?+
May through September on the southern coast (Uluwatu, Padang Padang). The eastern coast is better in the wet season.
